Empty Yourself Until You Are No More

One of the biggest fears of humanity is to lose control. Control of themselves, their wants, needs, territory, freedom, etc. It seems like everyone fights trying to keep control to dominate over everything. I don’t blame them since it’s actually in our nature. It all happened when the Lord entrusted us to take ownership over the world. We were created at His likeness to rule and reign over it like good stewards (Gen.2:15). Though, I guess you already know we lost it all when we sold our rights to the enemy (Gen.3:6). Still, people keep striving blindly to keep control over something they don’t have.

We need to lose ourselves in order for us to find the path again. Accepting Jesus will grant us access to recover what we once had in the Garden. (For whoever has ears to hear).

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also]. For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting]. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16:24-26‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Everything that’s unknown tend to be scary. Though, that is what Faith is all about. When you don’t know, but you step out anyways, finding out on the other side of the fence that God was right all along.

The only way to enter into His inheritance is by putting your own interests and motives aside. This is not only applicable to salvation but also to christian living. There are so many things in your walk that if you don’t give them up you will never see the fulness of His promises fulfilled in your life. Look at what Paul says about the hidden riches of Christ, making him relentless once he understood that it is way more valuable than even life itself.

“But whatever former things I had that might have been gains to me, I have come to consider as [one combined] loss for Christ’s sake. Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One), And that I may [actually] be found and known as in Him, not having any [self-achieved] righteousness that can be called my own, based on my obedience to the Law’s demands (ritualistic uprightness and supposed right standing with God thus acquired), but possessing that [genuine righteousness] which comes through faith in Christ (the Anointed One), the [truly] right standing with God, which comes from God by [saving] faith. [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:7-11‬ ‭AMP‬‬

This is attainable and reachable. You must strive and determine yourself to get there. I like how Paul states it, letting us know that this is worth pursuing, until we rise to the highest measure.

“Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:12-14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Paul is talking about the mature sons and daughters. Those that have decided to risk it all for Jesus and His Kingdom. Those that left everything behind in order to get to know Him and participate of His glorious riches while on earth.

“So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬

These mature sons are no more themselves but Christ lives through them. They walk by faith in Him who gave His life for humanity. (Gal.2:20) This is the will of God for us.

‬‬“Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:13-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Brothers and Sisters, Christ is our standard. Don’t be afraid to lose yourself, you will find yourself in Christ. If you want to go to higher spiritual levels, this is the way. Deny yourselves.

Lord, I want this. Give me the boldness to persue you like Paul did. I want to know you in a deeper way just how You intended it to be. Give me your understanding and the courage to say yes to You. I want more of you and less of me. In Jesus name, Amen.
